Maeve's gaze didn't waver.
"The one who should mind his tone is you."
"Tonight's party was hosted by Mr. Shaw. Don't tell me you didn't know who would be here."
"Even if Mr. Shaw didn't know I'd be attending as Whitty's date, Mr. Perez definitely would've told you."
Michael, suddenly name-dropped, nodded quickly.
"I messaged Landon. I told him Andres was bringing Maeve tonight."
Maeve looked back at Landon.
"So you knew Whitty wasn't alone—and you still deliberately brought Miss Mendoza here, someone he clearly wouldn't welcome, just to shove her in his face."
"Tell me, Mr. Hart—do you actually see Whitty as a friend?"
"Or were you just looking for a laugh at his expense?"
Nevaeh bristled, caught in the crossfire.
"Miss Vance, that's personal."
"Andres and I have known each other for years. When I met him, you were probably still in diapers."
"I came to see an old classmate. How does that make me some 'unwelcome woman' trying to disgust him?"
She turned to Andres, sharpening her tone.
"Andres, your girlfriend is… very jealous."
Nevaeh wasn't the type to swallow humiliation quietly. Maeve's pressure and sarcasm had pushed her too far.
Andres only smiled, calm as ever.
"That's why I warned you when you tried to throw yourself at me."
"My girlfriend has a thing about boundaries. She doesn't tolerate me touching other women."
"And maybe you don't know this yet—"
"The more jealous Maeve is, the more I like her."
"In love, who doesn't want to be the other person's one and only?"
