Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 1003

Barton had crossed paths with Maeve a few times before.

His impression of her was that she possessed a razor-sharp tongue and was a ruthless operator who didn't even care about her own blood relatives.

Thinking about the miserable state his family was in, and how his sister had lost a prime marriage prospect because of Maeve, his anger flared.

With old grudges and new debts piling up, Barton agreed that this was a score that needed settling.

Just as the two were about to embrace and get intimate, his assistant's text popped up: Mrs. Grover is here.

Mrs. Grover? Claudia Beaumont?

Barton's heart leaped into his throat. He hadn't expected Claudia to pull a surprise inspection right now.

He violently shoved Eva away, roughly stuffing her under his large mahogany desk.

He pushed a bit too hard, and Eva's head slammed into the edge of the desk. She let out a sharp cry of pain.

The moment she opened her mouth, Barton clamped his hand over it, glaring at her with a look that screamed at her to stay dead silent.

Eva was practically vibrating with rage.

She and Barton had been college sweethearts.

She was supposed to be the rightful Mrs. Grover. But Claudia had stolen her chance to be a high-society wife, simply because the woman was born into a better family.

The office door swung open a second later.

Claudia stepped in, scanning the room before her eyes locked onto Barton's desk.

Barton looked toward the door, his expression stiff.

"Honey, what are you doing here at this hour?"

Clicking across the floor in her incredibly expensive heels and holding a limited-edition handbag, Claudia walked slowly toward the desk.

"I was passing by your office after a client meeting, so I figured we could grab lunch together."

As she spoke, Claudia hopped up and took a seat right on the edge of Barton's desk.

The exact spot she chose was directly above where Eva was hiding.

She tapped her manicured fingers lightly against the wood.

"What's wrong, honey? You look a bit pale. Are you sneaking around behind my back?"
