Galen was at a loss for words, his mind racing to find a way out of the awkward situation. "I was just joking," he stammered, trying to brush off the tension.
Egbert's face remained stern, clearly not amused.
Eileen, however, was in a bit of a panic. She quickly pushed Egbert aside and rushed back to her room. Grabbing her phone, she was shocked to see a bank transfer notification for ten thousand dollars!
What on earth had gotten into Galen? If she had known firing a single shot could earn her that much, she would have stayed put yesterday!
There's a saying that goes, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." Having accepted Galen's money, Eileen's demeanor softened considerably. At breakfast, she was noticeably more agreeable and easygoing.
Galen suddenly brought out a pot of soup that smelled like a gas leak. The production team didn't say anything, but their expressions spoke volumes.
Salome, always outspoken, plopped down in her seat and immediately asked, "Who took their shoes off?"
Everyone: "..."
Galen: "..."
Galen was a bit miffed. He slammed his hand on the table and exclaimed, "It's just some cabbage, for heaven's sake!"
In truth, a bit of cabbage shouldn't have caused such a disaster. But the cook's culinary skills were questionable to begin with. In Galen's hands, the soup went from bad to worse, ending up a complete catastrophe. No one dared to touch it.
Galen, unwilling to admit defeat, took a couple of sips himself. After putting down the spoon, he turned to the housekeeper and said, "Might as well let the sheep have it."
The housekeeper paused, giving him a look as if to say, "If you won't eat it, why would the sheep?"
By 3 PM, everyone was on the move again, heading to the airport for their next destination. For the next month, the Eyes on the Rendezvous cast and crew were constantly on the road, crisscrossing Europe from north to south and back again, participating in various TV shows and magazine interviews.
After the VeymarBuffie Awards ceremony, they were invited to a local live talk show. This event was Eileen's last promotional appearance before heading home for her exams.
Before going on stage, Galen made sure to remind Eileen, "Your flight's at midnight. The show should wrap up by nine, so you can head back to the hotel for a bite. The staff will see you off to the airport, so you'll be fine."
Eileen nodded. Originally, she was supposed to fly home that afternoon, but Galen, valuing the importance of the interview, had convinced her to stay, sweetening the deal with an extra five thousand dollars.
The live broadcast kicked off at 6:30 PM. Before it began, Egbert handed Eileen a glass of water. Galen, feeling a bit anxious, reached for it, saying, "Thanks."
But before he could take it, Egbert pulled it back slightly. Galen was momentarily taken aback, staring at Egbert.
Egbert, expressionless, met Galen's gaze.
Galen: "..."
Galen gritted his teeth, muttering under his breath as he went to get water from the dispenser himself.
Once Galen was out of earshot, Egbert handed the glass to Eileen. She held it, not drinking, her face a picture of nervous tension.
Egbert smoothed her hair and asked, "Worried about the exams?"
Eileen looked up at him, panic in her eyes. "What if I don't pass? What then?"
Egbert chuckled softly, reassuring her, "Just do your best. If it doesn't work out this time, there's always next time, right?"
Eileen's reaction was explosive. She glared at Egbert, accusing, "Are you jinxing me? You devil!"
Egbert: "..."
Egbert calmly took the glass back from her, coolly saying, "Guess I'll drink it myself."
With that, he sipped the water and walked away.
Soon, the live show began. The host, a charismatic and witty man, introduced the guests after a lively opening monologue.
Everything proceeded smoothly until the end when the host posed an unexpected question: "Have you seen the online reviews of Eyes on the Rendezvous?"
Galen nodded, "I've seen a few."
The host continued, "We randomly interviewed ten diverse audience members at the cinema. Would you like to hear their thoughts on the film?"
"Sure," Galen replied with a smile.
The large screen behind them flickered to life with the first interview. A young, hip guy appeared. The interviewer asked, "Did you just watch Eyes on the Rendezvous?"
"Yeah," the guy replied.
The interviewer pressed on, "Did you enjoy it?"
The guy hesitated, "Honestly, I couldn't really grasp the plot. It was too complex, and I felt... overwhelmed."
"What made you feel that way? Was the storyline bad?" the interviewer asked.
"No, not exactly," the guy sighed. "I heard she was in it and thought it'd be hilarious... But there she was, having a baby on screen, which was just bizarre. She's a warrior, tough and formidable. She can take lives, not create them. It's just... confusing. Don't ask me more. I need a moment."
Interviewer: "..."
Eileen: "..."
The host, caught off guard by the candid response, awkwardly chuckled, "Seems like a fan of 'Valiant Quest.' Let's move on to the next clip."
The second interview featured a vibrant young woman. "Did I like it? Absolutely! He's fantastic! I don't care about the plot or dialogue. As long as he's there, I'm sold! Every expression, every move—he's mesmerizing! I'm definitely seeing it again!"
The interviewer, trying to steer the conversation, asked, "Aside from him, any other thoughts on the movie?"
The girl gushed, "Other thoughts? Well, lucky you, he's your leading man! He's drop-dead gorgeous! Just stunning!"
Interviewer: "..."
Eileen: "..."
Egbert: "..."
The host looked a bit awkward. "Alright, let's move on to the next one. Please, let's have a normal person this time!"
As if answering the host's plea, a regular person finally stepped up.
He was a huge fan of mystery movies. "It was fantastic! The plot was flawless. Unlike some Hollywood films that are so straightforward, this one was more subtle, and the twist at the end just blew me away! I'd give it a really high rating because it's the best mystery film I've seen in a while."
The interviewer asked, "So, if you could say something to the creators, what would it be?"
Eileen looked at him. "How would you do that?"
Egbert suggested, "There's not much else we can do. We could go public with our relationship."
Eileen: "..."
Eileen stood up, hands on her hips, glaring at Egbert. "Egbert, you're getting bold, aren't you?"
Egbert: "..."
"Pfft."
Suddenly, a short laugh echoed from somewhere in the room!
Egbert was instantly alert, pulling Eileen behind him.
Eileen narrowed her eyes, scanning the room.
Moments later, her gaze landed on the large wardrobe.
Egbert gestured for her to stay put, then cautiously approached the wardrobe.
As soon as he flung open the doors, Egbert launched a swift attack!
The person inside reacted quickly, dodging and countering with a move aimed right at Egbert's face!
In just a few exchanges, it was clear both were skilled.
The two men were locked in a fierce battle.
After thirty moves, the room was in shambles—the wardrobe doors were shattered, the bed frame cracked, the floor splintered, and the overhead light had burst!
Silence fell over the chaos.
The stranger, dressed as a hotel staff member, backed towards the balcony, chuckling as he wiped a drop of blood from his cheek with his fingers.
Egbert had managed to nick him with a tactical folding knife.
The young man, sounding a bit put out, said, "Hey, you've got weapons? Share one with me, will you?"
He even had the audacity to extend his hand.
Egbert's eyes were cold and piercing as he watched him.
The man, unsuccessful in his plea for a weapon, turned his gaze to Eileen, who had edged closer to Egbert. With a mock pout, he lamented, "Darling, today I learned that when you have a crush, you can't hide it, even if you're hiding in her wardrobe. Her husband will drag you out and beat you up. Boo-hoo."
