"Actually, I got it. It must be either Carlene or Laura. I only pissed off the two of them last night.”

Samuel didn't offer her any water, probably because she'd get terrified just by seeing it.

He frowned, watching as Maja picked up her phone from the side and found a recording sent by Carlene. It was last night's conversation with Ian.

She didn't lower the volume, so Samuel could hear it clearly, making his head spin in anger.

"Dang! That Ian is such a scumbag! Penny, you’ve got to dump him ASAP; stop putting up with his crap!"

Maja didn't respond; she just felt uncomfortable in her throat.

Samuel snatched her phone. "Stop listening; let those two immoral jerks get what they deserve!"

Maja dropped her gaze, hands resting outside the blanket, feeling a bit puzzled.

"I've been wondering, why does he hate me so much?"

Even though she took his wife's place, she never met him and even suggested a three-month divorce timeline. There were only two months left. Why did he still want to hurt her?

If she had really died last night, he probably wouldn't feel any remorse and maybe even use the opportunity to divorce.

"Penny, that's how men are. Some of them don't know what they've got until it's gone. They ruin the best things and then pretend to lament, saying, 'If only I could go back.' I know men too well."

Maja stopped talking, and Samuel continued to stir the pot.

Seeing her expression grow colder, he left satisfied.
