"So, everyone is there?" Athena asked when Fiona and Heronica were done giving directions and advice on how to avoid the cameras until it was late for the gang and the twin doctors.
Fiona nodded. "Kael was in the house before we left, sleeping too. The place is like the last hideout... he has been cussing out in rage with every hideout burnt by the government... I think that’s why they infected the President with the Grey Virus."
Could possibly be that, Athena thought, folding her lips, her brows knitting slightly.
"What about the sponsor? Is he there?"
Fiona shook her head. "That’s still the unknown. We have not seen him before, but we have heard Kael call him Crayfish or something like that..."
Fiona’s face twisted as she tried to remember more, but Athena already knew what she was talking about. Crayfish was the name Morgan had given them, the name they had seen on the binding contract between Morgan and the sponsor.
"I don’t think even the twins know him... they could... I’m not sure. You can ask them when you capture them. Matthew would need a lot of persuading to talk though. He is the strong-headed among the two."
"The main killer," Heronica supported Fiona’s observation. "I think Mary wants out, because of Cairo, her daughter, but her brother is... can be threatening..."
Heronica paused, folding her hands across her chest, her tone soft but tense. "If I should take a guess, I think she left the formula on display because I told her once I could read formulas—that I have always wanted to do practical science during one of our short, unplanned talks."
Athena blew out a shocked breath from her mouth. Mary too? She couldn’t have guessed. "What about your father?"
Fiona shook her head sadly. "Everyone should bear his cross."
"Well, thank you," Athena said, nodding, even though they hadn’t given her the main identity she was hoping for. "What is their next plan?"
"We overheard them talking about invading your lab three hours from now."
Athena’s brows shot up.
"That’s why I advised that you invade the hideout immediately, as soon as we are done with this conversation. Seeing as they think they will be taking the watchers there by surprise, they believe they will succeed. He gathered all his remaining men on ground..."
Athena ruffled her hair, running her fingers from the edge of her hair to its base—once, twice—her heartbeat picking up. They had wanted to invade the lab? And do what really? Could they even get past the doors? The lab wasn’t exactly upstairs.
"They had gotten information from a software hacker, I think... that the main base of your lab is underground. They were planning to break through harshly... every tool is ready for that... in the parking lot."
Athena exchanged a glance with Ewan. This was serious. No wonder the silence. They were planning something worse—had probably used the news about Ewan’s link to the gang, and her taking over his company, as a method of distraction.
She sighed, thanking her stars that her family hadn’t let her continue in her train of stupidity. The effects would have been too huge for her, and would have made the regrets heavier.
"Thank you," she said again when Fiona was done. "I appreciate you turning a new leaf."
A dry chuckle escaped from Heronica. "Thank you too for listening, and helping us."
Athena looked at Ewan, wondering if he had anything to say. He didn’t, other than: "Get to Filley’s Junction. My men are waiting there. They will make sure you are safe."
Heronica said thank you and started out, but Fiona hesitated, causing her new friend to wait for her.
