Chapter 569 Lab Rat in Love
Regina refused to believe that old hag from the Jordans would just abandon her own flesh and blood.
So deep down, she was still quite confident.
“How have you been feeling lately?” Esmond asked with what seemed like genuine concern.
“Hmm, I’ve been feeling more and more tired. My immune system seems to be getting weaker, and I keep getting sick. Do you think it’s the side effects of the genetic recombination showing up?”
Hearing her beloved man show such concern for her, Regina was practically swooning.
If Amelia saw her like this, she would probably throw up everything she had eaten.
An old hag still dreaming about love?
“Besides that, any
other symptoms?”
Esmond’s attention was entirely focused on what she was saying.
This woman was one of the earliest and oldest test subjects from the lab, making her extremely valuable for research purposes.
Although she had only become a test subject in adulthood, which meant the results weren’t as effective as they would be with children, she was still from the oldest batch of subjects and held significant reference value.
So far, she was only showing side effects and hadn’t died immediately or experienced organ failure. It seemed they were one step closer to success.
Esmond didn’t think his mindset was cruel at all, nor did he see anything wrong with using living people as lab rats or test subjects.
If their team succeeded, it would be a groundbreaking achievement that would surpass anything the world had ever seen.
Of course, if something went wrong and they died, so be it.
They would just find other test subjects to continue the research.
That person had kept him by Regina’s side precisely to monitor and understand the test subject’s condition more closely and conveniently.

It seemed he would need to give a thorough report on the current situation.
“I don’t know how to explain it. Sometimes I feel terrible, and other times I feel fine. It’s just different from before.”
Regina was a little worried too, afraid that something might go wrong with her body.
When she had agreed to let her body be used for research, it was because this man had repeatedly assured her that nothing would go wrong.
He had also told her that he hoped she could become stronger and more capable so they could walk side by side and soar together in the future.
Naturally, she had agreed.
Later, she did notice changes in her body, and her cognitive abilities had transformed as well.
It was truly miraculous.
Although the process had been painful, it was all worth it.
She felt she was far smarter and more capable than that fool Emery.
She was only slightly inferior to that woman Whitney.
Thinking of that bitch Whitney, a flash of viciousness crossed Regina’s eyes.
She knew Esmond had always had a thing for that woman. Every time he looked at her or spoke to her, his expression and attitude were completely different.
Thankfully, they rarely had the chance to interact. Otherwise, she definitely wouldn’t let her off the hook.
The team-building event for Nygard Group was scheduled at a fairly remote mountain resort.
Although the location was out of the way, the air and scenery were wonderful, and people chose to camp and picnic there.

“I heard you can see a sky full of stars at night, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a meteor shower.”
“This is amazing. It’s my first time doing a group camping trip. I’m so excited just thinking about it.”
It was called a team-building event, but really it was just taking everyone out to have fun, with

all expenses covered.
So everyone was thrilled and could truly let loose and relax.
The first day was camping, and the second day would be spent at a nearby hot spring resort, along with various optional activities.
This plan was Josie’s idea, since she was an expert at finding fun spots and knowing where to eat, drink, and play.
With their new leader organizing such an awesome team-building event right after taking office, the employees naturally had a great first impression of her.
With Josie leading the way, everyone set off early in the morning.
Amelia didn’t travel with the main group. Instead, she came separately with Jeremy.
“You’re not even part of our company. Why are you tagging along?”
Amelia sat in Jeremy’s top-of-the-line SUV, unable to help but tease him.
“We’re together, so what’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is still yours. But accompanying my partner to a company event-how could you have the heart to turn me down?”
Jeremy said this with complete confidence.
“You sure have a way with words.” Amelia couldn’t help but laugh at his response.
“Of course. We rarely get a chance to go out together. We’ve been dating for so long, but we’ve never gone on a trip or even a proper date.”
When he said this, Jeremy looked absolutely pitiful.
Ever since they had made things official, his girlfriend had been busy nonstop, and she only had time for him when they were at home.

When it came to camping trips and getaways, she really had no experience.
From the time she disappeared from the Nygards until she returned, and even up to now, most. of her time had been spent dealing with one thing or another.
Handling all sorts of clueless idiots and navigating various schemes-she simply hadn’t had time to think about going anywhere for fun.
After they finished chatting, Josie left to follow up on the arrangements.
Only Amelia remained in the office.
She sat quietly on the soft couch, leaning back, her gaze fixed on the large panoramic window.
The view outside was completely unobstructed. Her eyes passed through the transparent glass and settled on the busy street in the distance.
Cars flowed endlessly along the road, and pedestrians came and went, each seemingly with their own destination and worries.
The scene before her was full of life’s everyday hustle and bustle, yet she wasn’t drawn in by the lively view. Instead, she gradually drifted into deep thought.
Amelia’s mind wandered far away.
She couldn’t help but think of her father again.
The office she was sitting in now was the very place where her father had worked when he was alive.
When she was little, she used to come here often to see him.
But now, everything had changed. It was no longer the familiar place she once knew.
It had become her office alone, redecorated entirely to suit her own style.
Yet even so, she still couldn’t stop thinking about him.
Amelia took out her father’s journal from the custom-built safe and read through it once more.
Besides repeatedly reading the journal, she would also take out her father’s old phone—the one that had been deliberately damaged-and fiddle with it.
Although the phone had been repaired, there was nothing inside that was useful for the case.
But even so, she couldn’t help but swipe around on the screen.

She kept hoping to find some kind of clue hidden within.
Because this phone was the last thing he had touched before he died, and someone had deliberately erased any relevant traces.
So deep down, she always felt that this phone had to contain something.
Regardless of whether it did or not, Amelia liked to hold this phone whenever she had a free
moment.
“I never expected those idiots in the Nygards to suddenly become so united. It seems like they even want to reconcile with Amelia. What a miscalculation!”
In a hidden location, Regina was having a secret meeting with Esmond, venting her frustration about the situation.
