Chapter 460 An Unexpected Bond

“Oh my, Amelia, you finally made it. That’s wonderful,” Cora said warmly. “I only survived this scare because of you.”

She looked at Amelia with kind eyes, growing fonder of her by the second.

So many people had called this girl rebellious. They said she was full of scandals and trouble. Now it was clear those rumors couldn’t be trusted at all.

Luckily, Cora had never fully believed them. She hadn’t pushed Amelia away or looked down on her.

Otherwise, this girl would never have saved her life. She wouldn’t be standing here today.

“It was nothing,” Amelia said calmly. “I just did what I could.”

“Nothing?” Cora said with a laugh. “You saved a life. That’s no small favor; you saved my life.”

The more Cora looked at her, the more she liked her. After a short pause, she spoke again. “Amelia, we really get along well. If you don’t mind, would you like to be my god granddaughter?”

The room went quiet at her words. Everyone froze in shock.

“Grandma, have you lost your mind? Brielle jumped up at once. “You want someone like her as your granddaughter?”

“And what about Sabrina?” she snapped. “If it weren’t for her, Jeremy and Sabrina would never have broken up!”

Brielle almost shouted Jeremy’s name in her typical sugary voice, but the memory of his cold glare earlier made her swallow the words halfway. She quickly shut her mouth.

Sabrina said nothing. She pressed her lips together, clearly holding something back.

She said nothing, but her heart was anything but calm.

Both Cora and Nydia speak to Amelia so warmly, and now wanting to take her in as family made her

uneasy.

She felt restless. A quiet fear rose in her chest. She was afraid her place in the family was being taken.

“Without Amelia, I still would have ended that engagement,” Jeremy said firmly. “Don’t blame her for it.”

He stepped in right away. He couldn’t stand anyone attacking her, not even for a moment.

“Jeremy was right,” Cora nodded. “If there’s no real feeling, a marriage based on words alone will never last.”

She sighed softly.

“Back then, Bridget and I were too hasty. We made that engagement without thinking it through.

“Now that it’s ended, there’s no need to bring it up again,” she continued. “I believe both of them will find their happiness.”

Chapter 460 An Unexpected Bond

Cora had never expected that the Curran boy would resist the arrangement so strongly.

Since that was the case, she would no longer force the issue.

She knew his personality well. Once he made up his mind, no one could change it.

The Jordans would undoubtedly fail if the Currans were unable to keep him under control.

Instead of pushing and making everyone unhappy, it was better to let it go.

Cora trusted that her granddaughter was outstanding. She was sure Sabrina would find a better match, someone truly suitable.

And if Amelia became her adopted granddaughter and later ended up with that Curran boy.

She would be happy for them and maybe enjoy some benefit from the reunion.

“Grandma, no! I don’t want this!” Brielle shouted. “I don’t want any connection with this woman. Not even as honorary sisters!”

She refused to back down.

If this bitch became Cora’s honorary granddaughter, then Brielle would become her honorary sister.

She wanted nothing to do with that.

Brielle only needed Sabrina. That was enough. No one else could ever compare.

“Brielle, that’s enough,” Nydia snapped. “If you keep acting spoiled and ignoring everyone else’s feelings, then get out of this house.”

Nydia was known for her fiery temper. She wasn’t like Esmond or the others who always indulged this little troublemaker.

Brielle shrank back at first, startled by the scolding. Then she puffed out her lips, clearly upset.

Who does Aunt Nydia think she is? Why is she so smug? She married out of the family. Does she really think she can boss people around in the Jordans?

But when Brielle thought about her uncle-in-law and the power behind him, she swallowed her words.

Nydia’s husband was someone who influenced both sides of the law.

Not someone she could mess with. Definitely not.
