Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 655

Hiram was returning to the living room when he heard that last sentence. His steps froze, and he instinctively retreated behind the wall to listen.

The baby in his sister’s belly? She was pregnant?!

Charlotte remained silent. After a long pause, Judd glanced at the darkening sky outside and broke the tense atmosphere. “Well, I should be getting back to my hotel.”

Hiram quickly emerged from his hiding spot. “Mr. Carstairs, we have a spare room. Won’t you stay?”

Judd shook his head, simply saying it wouldn’t be appropriate before he left.

Hiram watched him go, then turned back to Charlotte, sitting down across from her. He couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Sis… are you pregnant?”

Charlotte met his gaze as he continued, “I accidentally overheard what Mr. Carstairs said. Is the baby… your ex-brother-in-law’s?”

“It’s mine.”

“Huh?” Hiram looked confused, as if wondering how she could get pregnant by herself.

Charlotte elaborated, “Haven’t you heard of artificial insemination?”

Hiram was speechless.

Looking drained, she stood up. “It’s been a long day. I’m tired and going to get some rest.”

He snapped out of his daze and called to her retreating back, “Oh, okay. Are you eating dinner later?”

“Yes,” Charlotte said before closing her door.

...

After leaving the Sterlings’ house, Judd ran into Lilith not far away. She was pacing anxiously in front of a pink sports car, so lost in thought that she didn’t even notice him approach.

“What are you doing here?” Judd’s voice made her jump.

Startled, she looked up, her eyes darting away from his. She couldn’t bring herself to admit she’d seen him leave with Charlotte and had followed them to find out where Charlotte lived.

“I… I was just in the neighborhood,” Lilith said, trying to hide the guilt on her face. She looked up again. “Is Charlotte okay?”
