Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 618

“No,” Wesley said without a hint of hesitation, his tone firm. “What I mean is, we are not the same kind of person.”

Shane stared at him, stunned.

He continued, “I can understand your hatred, but I cannot condone your methods. Besides, my last name is Rayburn, too. Isn’t the Rayburn family my family as well?”

Shane’s hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into tight fists. After a long moment, she bit her lip. “If you were me, if Charlotte had suffered what I did, what would you do?”

He considered this for a few seconds. “I would make the people responsible pay, but I would never resort to murder.”

A heavy silence descended, broken finally by Shane’s sharp, bitter laugh. She turned her head away, something in her tear-filled eyes hardening into clarity.

She had expected this. The Wesley she knew was a man of principle; he would never side with her. If he did, he wouldn’t be the man she knew.

And yet… she had still hoped, for just a moment, that he might stand with her. Even if it was just a lie to win her trust.

Shane looked away, burying all her emotions. “You can go,” she said coldly.

He didn’t move.

“Go!” she snarled. “I don’t need you anymore!”

Wesley’s expression flickered. He looked at her one last time and said softly, “It’s not too late… you can still turn back. Come back.”

“Get out!” She swept everything off the tea table with a crash.

The loud noise brought the steward running.

He froze, taking in the mess on the floor, momentarily at a loss.

Wesley said nothing more and turned to leave.

Back in the brightly lit living room, a guard approached him and whispered, “Mr. Caleb sends his regards.”

Wesley understood immediately. He was Caleb’s man.

“Weren’t you with Shane?”

The man gave an awkward smile. “I work for Mr. Caleb now. But on the surface, I still have to follow the boss’s orders. Now that you’re safe, Mr. Caleb and Mr. Rayburn can rest easy.”
