At his old home, his mommy never smiled like that. He suddenly realized he had been wrong.
His grandmother and Marie had always told him that as the future head of the Cross Group, he had to live a certain way. He had tried so hard to become the person they wanted him to be, but now he realized none of that was what he truly wanted.
All he wanted was a home where his mommy and daddy were waiting for him. A happy family.
Listening to Hanley's words, Natalie felt a bittersweet pang in her heart. So he did remember the good things she had done for him. Maybe it hadn't all been for nothing.
Victoria grew even more furious and raised her hand to hit Hanley again.
But Lucas stepped forward. "Hey, what are you doing? Trying to hit someone? You're an old lady trying to hit a kid! The police are here, they can arrest you too!"
An officer asked, "Who called the police?"
Natalie said, "We did. Someone tried to dine and dash, and they were also attempting to assault a child."
The officer turned to Victoria. "Ma'am, you're old enough to know better. What's all this commotion about?"
Victoria hadn't expected Natalie to actually call the police. She was seething.
She said nervously, "Officers, don't let this woman fool you. I wasn't trying to skip the bill. It's just that the food wasn't fresh, so I didn't want to pay for it!"
Just then, Hanley spoke up. "The food wasn't bad. It was delicious. I liked it a lot."
Victoria almost had a heart attack. How could this child side with Natalie?
The officer said, "Your own grandson said it was delicious. This is clearly a deliberate attempt to cause trouble. You'd better think carefully before you speak again. Making false claims has consequences!"
Victoria panicked. "A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! I'll pay, I'll pay!"
With the police present, Victoria didn't dare cause any more trouble. After paying, she angrily grabbed Hanley and dragged him away.
