“Compensation? What could you possibly compensate me with? Money? I’ll admit, I’m a practical person. I wouldn't mind being compensated with money, but if accepting it means getting entangled with you and having to listen to you call me 'sister' and 'daughter' all day, I just can't stomach it. That's too high a price to pay. So no, I don't want it. Goodbye.”
With that, Natalie left, ignoring the Ward family's attempts to stop her.
In the car, Terence asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to acknowledge them?”
Natalie stared at Terence suspiciously. “So, you want me to acknowledge them, Mr. Lockwood? Because the Wards are a rich and powerful family? I didn't realize you were so pragmatic.”
Natalie was suddenly displeased. He wanted her to accept these relatives just because the Wards had money and power?
Terence said, “I’m not trying to get you to accept the Wards as your relatives. I just needed to confirm whether you wanted to acknowledge them or not, so I can go ahead and blacklist them.”
“What do you mean?”
“I imagine the Wards won't give up easily. They'll keep trying to bother you. I just wanted to confirm your decision. If you don't want to see them, I'll block them and make sure they can't get near you again.”
Natalie looked at Terence. “Can you really do that?”
“Of course. I’ll instruct the security at home to never let the Ward family near the Lockwood estate again. I’ll also have guards posted at your workplace to keep them away.”
“Wouldn't that be too much trouble?”
“I'll shield you from anything that upsets you or ruins your mood.”
“I never knew you were a human filter, Mr. Lockwood.”
“It's my honor to be your filter.”
Natalie found Terence's words amusing.
“You arranged for the police to arrest Kate Verdan so early because you were afraid the Wards would kill her, weren't you?”
