“No!”
Hanley denied it immediately, and Natalie’s gaze grew colder.
“Hanley, the security cameras at the flower shop near the hospital caught you and Marie there together. Are you still going to tell me she didn’t ask you to bring me those flowers?”
Hanley was stunned. He hadn’t realized they were on camera.
“Mommy, Auntie didn’t tell me to get you flowers. I wanted to buy them for you myself, so I asked her for advice on what kind to get. She was just being helpful and gave me some suggestions, but I wanted to buy them, and I picked them out. Mommy, please stop accusing Auntie.”
“I haven’t even said anything, and you’re already saying I’m accusing her. It seems Marie has already brainwashed you. Do you have any idea that bouquet was meant to kill someone? Why are you still protecting her?”
Hanley’s face paled slightly.
“Mommy, it was just a normal bouquet of flowers that I picked out myself from the shop to give to you. How could it be something harmful? Mommy, are you willing to make up any excuse just to frame Auntie?”
“Hanley, are you that determined to protect Marie? She is not a good person. She would even harm her own brother, who loved her more than anyone. What makes you think she wouldn't do the same to you?”
Victoria, flustered and angry, interjected, “Natalie, stop talking nonsense. Marie is wonderful to Hanley. She would never hurt him. You’re the one who’s a terrible mother, watching your own son suffer while you’re busy trying to be a stepmother to someone else.”
Natalie shot Victoria an icy look. “Marcus Ward’s death is directly related to that bouquet. Is this how she treats Hanley? By letting him take the fall for her?”
Victoria was silenced, unable to respond.
Natalie looked at Hanley. “Hanley, Marie committed murder. Are you sure you still want to cover for her?”
