“My target was the Cross Group. Why would I go after my brother for our family’s company?”
Elaine paused, considering her daughter’s words. It made sense.
Her daughter had always been ambitious and knew what she wanted. She knew the Ward fortune belonged to her brother. Her sights were set on the Cross Group, which was why she’d broken up with Darren without a second thought to marry his older brother.
If Darren’s brother hadn’t died so young, none of this would have happened.
“Are you sure you didn’t hurt your brother? Then why are Terence and Natalie so convinced it was you?”
“Mom, Dad, I stole Darren from Natalie, so of course she hates me. And I spent years making her life miserable at the Cross family estate. She’s been waiting for a chance to get revenge. Now that she’s latched onto a man like Terence, she’s using him to crush me.
“They’re trying to frame me! You can’t believe them. Don’t you trust the daughter you raised for over twenty years?”
Elaine Ward began to waver. Richard, however, remained firm. “Regardless, you are not to leave this house. When your brother wakes up, we’ll find out what really happened.”
“That’s great, Dad! As soon as he’s awake, my name will be cleared. But if he wakes up, are you really going to give Natalie fifty percent of the shares? My brother will be left with nothing!”
“If your brother wakes up, I would gladly give Natalie everything we own—the entire Ward family fortune, all of it.”
“You can’t do that, Dad! Why should Natalie get our family’s assets? Even I don’t have that much!”
“What are you even arguing about right now? If your brother doesn’t wake up, this family is finished. It’s over.”
“That’s enough,” Elaine said. “Go to your room and stay there. You’re not to leave the house until your brother is awake.”
