And with that child who believed his aunt was more important than his own mother, why couldn’t she just let go?
“Darren, you’re right. I should reflect. When Hanley came to me begging for Marie, I should have just shut the door on him. I should have called a car and sent him straight back to the Cross family. Then none of this, him framing Terence, would have ever happened!”
Her words, cold and sharp as a knife, sliced at his heart.
She really was willing to give up their child. To her, Terence was all that mattered now.
“You’re really devoted to Terence, aren’t you? Even if he hurts our son, you’ll just turn a blind eye? Even if he harms our child, you still think it’s the child’s fault, don’t you?”
Darren suddenly gripped Natalie’s wrist tightly, his eyes bloodshot. “Is our son’s life less important than that man?”
His grip was so tight it made her bones ache. Natalie tried to pull away but couldn't.
She said coldly, “Darren, we’re divorced. I don’t owe you any explanations. If you care about your son, then take good care of him. As for me and Terence, that’s none of your business! You’re Marie’s husband now!”
When Natalie called him Marie’s husband, Darren’s hand recoiled as if he’d been shocked.
Natalie looked at the slightly bewildered expression on his face, her eyes icy. “It was my mistake to keep Hanley with me. If you and Hanley dare to use this to frame Terence, I swear I will cut all ties with Hanley! I, Natalie, will not have a son who is a compulsive liar and bites the hand that feeds him. You’d better make him think carefully. Does he still want to frame Terence?”
With that, Natalie turned and walked away, furious. Her child had become a compulsive liar.
He would go to such extreme lengths for Marie, even framing Terence. She was done with him!
***
Natalie returned to the Lockwood estate looking utterly dejected.
When Lucas and Liana saw her, they immediately ran over.
