“You shut your mouth!” Natalie retorted, her anger flaring. “You know exactly what you’ve been teaching my son. The reason he’s twisting the truth like this is all because of you, isn’t it?”
Victoria was taken aback by Natalie’s audacity. “Darren, do you hear how she’s speaking to me?”
“Darren and I are divorced,” Natalie shot back. “You are not my mother-in-law, so don’t try to guilt-trip me. A person like you, who has no morals to begin with, has no right to lecture me about anything.”
Victoria trembled with rage. Darren grabbed Natalie’s hand. “My mother is already in this state. Do you have to provoke her further?”
Natalie laughed coldly. “Yes, she’s in this state, but somehow she can still fill my son’s head with her poisonous ideas!”
She turned to Hanley. “Why are you lying?”
Hanley couldn’t meet her eyes, but he knew this was his only chance to save his aunt.
There wouldn't be another one.
Steeling himself, Hanley said, “Mommy, I’m not lying! Terence pushed me! Daddy, help me find a lawyer. I want to sue him!”
“Of course we will,” Victoria declared. “He dared to try and murder a child. We’ll definitely sue him. So what if the Lockwood Group is powerful? I refuse to believe the public won’t condemn him for attacking a child. Even if he avoids prison, the Cross Group's stock will plummet to the bottom.”
As Victoria clamored on, Natalie knew that if this story got out, it would be exploited by their enemies. The Lockwood Group’s stock would surely be affected. Even if the impact was small, she didn’t want Terence or his family to face trouble because of her son.
