Was he doing the right thing?
No, he had to be. If he couldn't protect Marie, the Cross Group would be destroyed, and Natalie would want nothing to do with him then. Let her hate him now. Once he surpassed Terence, she would come back to him.
Marie put on a pitiful act. “Natalie, I’m sorry. Mom and I misunderstood you. We thought you took the necklace. After all, it’s worth ten million dollars; anyone would be tempted. But after you knelt for two days, we all dropped the matter, didn't we? I just didn't realize until a year later that we had wronged you. I'm so sorry. You can hit me, you can yell at me, do whatever you want. I was the one who wronged you. I'm sorry.”
Marie crawled on her knees to Natalie’s feet, but Natalie was just disgusted.
“Marie, get away from me. You’re truly disgusting!”
Kneeling on the floor, Marie’s face stiffened. This was Natalie, someone she had always looked down upon. She never imagined she would one day be kneeling at her feet, apologizing, only to be mocked and humiliated. The anger was suffocating.
But she had to endure it.
One day, when Natalie fell into her hands, she would make sure she died a horrible death.
“Natalie, I’m sorry. It was my fault. I’m begging you, please ask Mr. Lockwood to let me go. I was wrong about everything in the past. I know you still have feelings for Darren, and that you were hurting today because he and I got married. That’s why you and Mr. Lockwood teamed up against me. Our wedding is ruined now, and you have someone as wonderful as Mr. Lockwood. Can’t you just forget the past? It was all my fault. Please, let me go.”
