Suddenly, Elaine lunged at Mrs. Peterson and kicked her, shouting angrily, “We took you in for over twenty years, and now you dare to frame my daughter! You made me think my own daughter harmed my son, tearing our family apart. How could you be so shameless!”
Seething with rage, Richard said venomously, “You damn woman! You stole my daughter’s ten-million-dollar necklace and now you have the nerve to frame her? Have you no conscience?”
Mrs. Peterson said firmly, “No! I can swear I didn’t steal Marie’s necklace. And I can swear I saw Marie tamper with her brother’s car. She’s the one who caused his accident.”
Marie pointed a finger at Mrs. Peterson, incensed. “You dare to swear? What is your oath worth? Tell me, how much did Terence pay you to destroy me like this?”
Marie was screaming, but she was cut short by Terence’s calm, icy voice.
“If you want to know how much I paid her, you should ask me directly.”
Marie looked up at Terence. His intimidating presence was overwhelming, and a single glance sent a chill down her spine.
Terence’s aura had her completely suppressed.
She couldn’t afford to offend him.
If Darren hadn’t intervened today, she would have been finished.
She had to tread carefully and avoid a direct confrontation with Terence.
Marie instantly shed her aggressive demeanor and said humbly, “Mr. Lockwood, I know you wanted to teach me a lesson. I’ll be more careful and proper from now on. I know I was wrong. Please, forgive me.”
Terence didn’t speak, but a cold, contemptuous smile touched his lips.
When Marie saw that smile, her world suddenly crumbled.
He wasn’t going to let her off!
She knew he was doing this for Natalie, and for a moment, it seemed like they had the upper hand.
