Mrs. Lockwood looked at Natalie. "Natalie, are you all right?"
"I'm fine," Natalie replied.
Mrs. Lockwood then turned to Kate Verdan. "You shouldn't have come here by yourself. Natalie was very worried."
When Natalie learned that Kate had gone to confront Darren, she had been frantic. Mrs. Lockwood knew they would likely be mistreated, so she had gathered her people and come along, but she was still a step too late.
These people were truly despicable.
Kate lowered her head. "I'm sorry to have worried you, Mrs. Lockwood."
Hearing Kate call the woman "Mrs. Lockwood," Victoria and Marie paused.
*Mrs. Lockwood?* What kind of title was that?
Why would Kate address that woman as Mrs. Lockwood?
Suddenly, Victoria burst out laughing. "What did you call her? Mrs. Lockwood? That's hilarious. Natalie, I told you to watch out for your so-called best friends, didn't I? Now you've learned your lesson. Your man has been stolen from you."
Marie chimed in smugly, "A divorced woman with a child like you was never going to find anyone anyway. You finally found someone willing to take you, and now your best friend has seduced Terence away. What are you going to do now? Share him?"
Mrs. Lockwood stepped forward and slapped Marie hard across the face.
"What are you barking about, you filthy thing?"
Stunned by the slap, Marie tried to retaliate, but her raised hand was caught in a firm grip.
