Kate was furious now. She stood up and pointed at Victoria. "You ungrateful wretch! When you were paralyzed, unable to even care for yourself, who was it that got you back on your feet? It was my daughter! She took care of you and treated you while she was heavily pregnant!"
Hearing her past humiliation brought up again, Victoria was enraged.
"I recovered because my daughter-in-law, Marie, hired the best doctors from abroad to treat me!" she declared arrogantly. "Did you really think your daughter poking me with a few needles could cure me? Who does she think she is, some kind of miracle worker?"
Kate seethed. Her daughter had cared for Victoria while pregnant and treated her, and now she wasn't even getting a shred of gratitude.
Natalie didn't want to argue with them anymore. She took Kate's arm. "Mom, let's go. Victoria is on her last legs anyway. It won't be long before she's paralyzed in bed again, unable to care for herself."
As Natalie said this and tried to help her mother leave, Victoria lunged forward and blocked their path. "Natalie, what are you saying? How dare you curse me!"
Victoria's fingers had started trembling recently. Sometimes she couldn't hold things steady.
She was still following the prescription Natalie had given her, but her health was deteriorating.
She had tried to get the original prescription back from Natalie last time but had failed.
Her only hope was Marie, but the medicine from the doctors Marie found wasn't having much effect. A seed of dread had already been planted in her heart, and now, hearing Natalie's words, she lost control.
"I'm not cursing you. Haven't you noticed the changes in your own body?"
