Natalie was in awe of the scene before her.
“This press conference… is for me?”
“That’s right. Now that you’ve joined our institute, I naturally want to announce this wonderful news to the world.”
“But I…”
The last time Natalie had faced a press conference was during her divorce from Darren. For some reason, she now felt a sense of dread around them.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here with you,” Patrick said encouragingly, which helped to calm her nerves.
“Ms. Verdan, we all saw your incredible performance in the International Math Competition. Your joining Mr. Mercer’s institute is well-deserved.”
“Ms. Verdan, several international organizations also made you offers, yet you chose to stay here at Mr. Mercer’s institute. It shows what a patriotic person you are. To have someone like you is a true blessing for our country.”
“Ms. Verdan, how is your hand injury? Will it affect your future research?”
Listening to the reporters’ questions, Natalie began to relax.
“Thank you all for your concern. My hand has healed about seventy or eighty percent and won’t affect my work. I would never leave the country I love so deeply. I’ve been given a chance to contribute to my nation, and I will certainly do my best. I also sincerely thank Mr. Mercer’s institute for giving me this opportunity.”
The press conference was filled with praise for Natalie’s victory in the International Math Competition.
They lauded her for defending the nation’s honor despite her injury.
This time, all the reporters were focused on her achievements. Finally, no one mentioned her divorce. When a woman reached a certain height, the mud from the past could no longer touch her.
Watching Natalie on TV, lauded by so many reporters as she joined Patrick’s institute, looking so radiant on stage, Victoria and Marie’s faces contorted with rage.
“She’s just a low-born nobody. What right does she have to stand in the spotlight and be admired?” Marie hissed.
