With that, Mrs. Lockwood pulled Natalie onto the motorcycle, ready to leave. Nicholas was frustrated.
He had gotten into a fight and hadn't received any real appreciation for it.
Then he remembered something important. With his grandfather’s help, he had managed to add Natalie on social media, but he could never see her posts.
He just wanted to see her feed, hoping she wouldn't block him so he could get to know her better.
Seeing Natalie about to leave, Nicholas knew it was now or never.
He quickly stepped in front of them. Mrs. Lockwood frowned. “Are you trying to be a roadblock? What are you doing in front of us?”
“I just fought for you, and all I get is a ‘thanks’?” Nicholas said. “That’s such an empty word. Shouldn’t I get some kind of substantial reward?”
“What kind of substantial reward do you want? Money? You don’t look like you need it.”
Natalie looked at Nicholas, silent. He couldn’t have stopped them for money, could he?
Nicholas looked at the puzzled and adorable Natalie and said, “I lost my phone. Can I borrow yours?”
He planned to use Natalie’s phone to secretly change her privacy settings so he could see her posts.
Just as Natalie was about to hand her phone to Nicholas, Mrs. Lockwood quickly pulled out her own.
“You can borrow my phone,” she said.
Natalie had been about to give him her phone. He was just one step away from success, and suddenly he was thwarted.
The smile on Nicholas's face was more pained than a grimace.
“Ma’am, your phone isn’t really my style. I’ll use Natalie’s.”
