Susan then looked at Darren and said, "I hear you're getting remarried. Although I think Natalie is wonderful, since you're moving on, I should still congratulate you. But which family's young lady are you marrying?"
At this, everyone's expression turned ugly. Victoria declared, "My daughter-in-law is, and always will be, Marie. She is the only one I recognize."
"Your eldest son passed away so young, it's such a tragedy. His widow has been on her own for several years. If you truly care for her, you should be helping her find someone new to marry."
Marie's face grew even darker. If Victoria wasn't holding her back, she would have flipped the table.
Darren remained silent. Susan continued to press him. "Darren, who are you marrying? Why are you too embarrassed to say? The new bride should meet the relatives."
Victoria was about to lose her mind. Were these two pretending not to understand, or were they genuinely this dense?
Marie shot Victoria a fierce glare. Victoria knew she couldn't avoid it any longer.
Victoria sighed. "It's our fault for not getting the invitations to you in time. Helena, bring two invitations over."
Helena brought the invitations to Susan and Linda.
Susan put on her glasses and examined the invitation closely. She said to Linda, "This invitation is so exquisite, so beautiful. This is the kind of invitation a wealthy family would make. But... they've made a very basic mistake. Hasn't anyone noticed the printer got the names wrong? Marie's name should be moved up, not in the bride's spot. People will laugh at this."
