Before Victoria could finish, a basin of cold water splashed directly in her face.
It happened so suddenly that Victoria had no time to dodge, getting a full, chilling blast right in her face.
As she wiped the water from her face, Victoria shrieked hysterically, “Who was that? Who has the gall to splash me? Don’t you know who I am?”
Mrs. Lockwood watched from the side, thoroughly enjoying the spectacle of Victoria getting soaked.
“Adele, your aim is impeccable. Not a single drop was wasted.”
Victoria wiped the water from her eyes and looked up to see an older woman with an imposing aura. However, she recognized the woman’s clothes as the uniform of the Lockwood family staff. A servant had dared to throw water on her.
“You… you’re just a servant, and you dare to throw water on me? Do you have any idea who I am?”
“I don’t need to know who you are. The matriarch said some filth had gotten into the Ravenfell Wing and ordered me to clean it up. I was afraid a little water was necessary to scrub it clean.”
To be called filth infuriated Victoria.
But then she registered that the woman had been sent by the matriarch. Did this mean she had disturbed the head of the Lockwood family?
“Is this how the Lockwood family matriarch treats her guests? You’re just a servant, don’t think you can fool me with a few words. I won’t let you get away with drenching me like this.”
“Our matriarch is out on the lake, enjoying some tea. Your shouting disturbed her peace. Don’t you think you needed a splash of water to wake you up and remind you whose territory you’re on?”
Victoria’s face changed. She had been so arrogant because she thought she was in the Ravenfell Wing and couldn't possibly disturb the matriarch. She never imagined the old woman would be boating on the lake.
Victoria had no choice but to swallow her pride. “My apologies for disturbing the peace of the household. I’ll leave now.”
