“What’s going on? Is Darren trying to win Natalie back? I thought he and Marie were the real couple. Weren’t they torn apart by Natalie? Their tragic love story was even made into a movie, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, and didn’t Hanley and the Cross family matriarch come out and say that they were the true pair? Why is Darren making a move on Natalie now?”
“He probably saw how exceptional Natalie is and regrets letting such an amazing wife go.”
Seeing Marie seething, she pushed through the reporters and stormed over to Natalie, saying with a sneer, “Even though you’re divorced, you’re still Hanley’s mother. There’s no need to be in such a rush to become a stepmother to someone else’s children. Think of how sad that would make your own son.
Darren has always cared most about his child, and he’s a sentimental person. He can’t bear to see you struggling. After all, being a stepmother isn’t easy.”
Marie framed Darren’s feelings for Natalie as mere pity and concern for their child.
Just then, Nicholas walked up to Natalie. “Come with me. I’m not a cheating scumbag, and you wouldn’t have to be a stepmom. I’m a Fairchild, from one of the four great families of Eldoria City. How am I not better than this jerk?”
No one seemed to expect Nicholas to be so direct.
“Wow, Nicholas is really going for it. I wonder if Natalie will choose Terence or Nicholas?”
Patrick stepped forward. “Relationships are unreliable. A career is a woman’s best support system. Join our research institute.”
Nicholas shot back, annoyed, “Patrick, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to, trying to get an inside track. That’s not very ethical of you.”
The audience was thrilled.
