Everyone was thrilled, except for Marie.
Whether they had criticized Natalie before or not, everyone was now on the edge of their seats with excitement.
Nicholas finally let out a sigh of relief. He had made it just in time.
His luck today had been extraordinary. He'd hit nothing but green lights the entire way. The last one had just turned red, and as he braced himself to run it, it miraculously switched back to green.
Incredible luck.
Nicholas suddenly frowned. Was it just luck?
“Natalie’s here! She’s here!”
In the audience, Darren felt a surge of adrenaline as he saw Natalie arrive. The blood pulsed in his veins. He knew she wasn’t the type to run from a fight.
Seeing the entire venue cheer for her, Darren felt an unexpected, swelling sense of pride.
Hanley saw his mother and excitedly tugged on Darren’s arm. “Daddy, Mommy’s here! Mommy’s here!”
Marie’s face was as dark as charcoal.
It was one thing for the ignorant masses to be excited about Natalie’s arrival.
But seeing Darren and Hanley just as ecstatic made her grind her teeth in fury.
That useless fool couldn't even stop Natalie. He actually let her get here. It was infuriating.
“Don’t celebrate too soon. It’ll be humiliating if she loses.”
Marie’s words were like a bucket of ice water dumped over the excited crowd.
“After all the trash Ken talked, losing would be just as bad.”
The cheering subsided as people sank back into their seats, their expressions turning grim. It was true. A loss now would be a public disgrace.
