The word 'dad' seemed to conjure a different image in her mind.
Martin Doyle said without a shred of shame, "Natalie, you're so smart. If you take your mother away, there'll be no one to cook or do laundry for me. That kind of work would cost at least one hundred fifty to two hundred thousand a year. And she can serve me for at least another 40 years. So, I'll give you the family discount... let's call it five million dollars."
Kate paled. "You just asked Natalie for two million! She's divorced now, and she left with nothing. Where would she get five million dollars?"
"If she doesn't have five million, then she can't take you away. Just stay here obediently, and everything will be fine."
Natalie pulled her mother closer. Her gaze was firm as she looked at Martin Doyle. "I'll give you the five million, but I'm taking my mother with me right now. Every second spent with someone like you is a waste of air."
With that, Natalie tried to pull Kate toward the door, but Martin Doyle suddenly blocked their path. "You want to take her? No way. Not unless I see the money today."
He used his body to barricade the doorway.
He sneered, a look of contempt on his face. "Natalie, you really are a cheap tramp. You finally married into the Cross family and became the young madam of the Cross Group. What couldn't you endure? So what if Darren was having an affair with his widowed sister-in-law? Couldn't you just turn a blind eye? You had to make a huge scene and get a divorce. Now that you've left the Cross family, do you think you're still someone important?
