She led Shirley into the living room with Eleanor. Inside the living room, Skyler, who was drinking alone, noticed Shirley entering. His hand holding the glass trembled violently, and then he resumed drinking naturally.
Miguel saw the people coming in, nudged Skyler with his elbow, and whispered, "Shirley is here."
Skyler put down his glass, picked up the wine glass, and poured himself another drink, pretending not to hear or see anything. The atmosphere in the living room became awkward for a moment.
Veronica had an idea and asked, "Does anyone know how to fix cars? My car broke down. Can you help me check it out?"
Miguel said, "I'll go and take a look." Then he pulled Matthew along. "Both of you know how to fix cars, so let's go check it out together."
He got up and walked to the door. Seeing Eleanor coming in, his eyes scanned her up and down, full of confusion as if asking. 'Didn't you break your leg? How did you recover so quickly?'
Eleanor's eyes twitched, and she immediately pretended to limp.
"Still pretending? Come out with me!" Miguel frowned and dragged her towards the door.
Eleanor pouted, "I'm not pretending; I'm limping."
Most left the room. Veronica put her hands on Shirley's shoulders, pushing her to sit next to Skyler, "You two should have a good chat."
"Veronica, I..." Shirley was terrified and somewhat scared.
Veronica shook her head at her and touched her head to soothe her. "Don't be afraid, it's okay."
She glanced at Skyler again, "You two should have a good chat." After saying that, she turned around and left the living room, closing the door behind her.
When she met Skyler that day, she took him to the hospital. Only God knew how much struggle Shirley went through before she finally decided to leave the hospital and find Zephyr's phone number to tell him that Skyler was in the hospital.
Shirley admitted that she felt inferior because of her disfigurement. She also admitted that she was afraid of the power behind the Green Family and didn't dare to risk her family's lives.
As an ordinary person, she simply didn't have the strength to confront power. Shirley also felt wronged. But who could understand that kind of grievance? No one.
Actually, there was someone who could understand. That person was... Wade.
As ordinary people at the bottom of society, facing the need for money and the threat of power, they both hated and struggled, but all in vain.
"Veronica told me that you were going to become a monk, so I came to see you." She took a deep breath and pretended to be calm, "Since you're okay, my staying here is unnecessary." After saying that, she got up, turned around, and was about to leave.
