Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1635

“Don’t forget, you’ve worked with Lucas for years. If he really had feelings for you, do you think he would’ve waited this long?

“Take me, for example. If I liked someone, I’d tell her right away. I wouldn’t hesitate until now.”

Hearing that, Yvonne let out a faint, bitter laugh. “I don’t believe you. If that’s true, then why haven’t you confessed to me yet?”

The moment those words left her mouth, both of them froze.

Their eyes met awkwardly, neither daring to move.

Then, almost at the same time, they looked away.

Yvonne realized immediately that she’d said something she shouldn’t have.

She pushed Edwin away, wiped her tears, and stumbled toward the door.

“Forget it. Pretend I didn’t say that.”

Edwin watched her back as she left, unsure how to feel.

He knew he hadn’t hidden his feelings very well.

Anyone observant enough could see he cared for her.

And truthfully, he’d never really tried to hide it; he just didn’t want to burden her.

She had figured it out long ago, which was why she’d asked him that question.

Sometimes, she even suspected he had feelings for her.

But something inside him always stopped him from saying it aloud.

Her sudden question had caught him completely off guard.

He’d never denied his affection; he’d simply thought Yvonne was pretending not to notice.

But now he knew that she’d understood all along.

Thinking of that, Edwin couldn’t quite describe what he was feeling.
