"It’s nothing," even though Old Master Bai was simply shocked to the point that he stopped breathing, he still knew that there were some things that he couldn’t say. So, he lowered his head and hid the gleam in his eyes that was fluctuating. "I was just lost in my thoughts."
Yan Wanning nodded. She didn’t think much and started serving the person behind Old Master Bai a bowl of porridge. As she was too busy, she didn’t notice Old Master Bai glancing at her as he walked away.
"Ouch! Old Bai, watch where you are going!" Because Old Master Bai was not looking ahead, he ran into Director Feng, who rubbed his forehead and looked at Old Master Bai with a hint of a frown on his face. Where was this old man running around while looking behind him? Was he not worried that he would end up getting hurt? And what kind of trick did this man come up with that he was walking with his head turned back while he was moving forward?
Old Master Bai whipped his head to the front, and when he saw Director Feng, he immediately reached out, caught hold of Director Feng’s wrist and pulled him to one side.
Director Feng had not expected such an outcome. He looked at Old Master Bai and said to him, "Old Bai, what is the matter with you? I am a bit hungry. Can we discuss whatever you have to say later on?"
"We cannot discuss this later on," said Old Master Bai. He glanced at Yan Wanning and then turned to look at Director Feng. "Who is that woman? The one who is serving the porridge?"
Director Feng frowned. He raised his head and looked at Yan Wanning. When he saw Mother Bai, his frown deepened. He said to Old Master Bai, "That’s Madam Bai, Miss Meiyue’s mother. Why are you asking about her?"
"Bai Meiyue’s mother?" Old Master Bai’s eyes widened. For some reason, he suddenly felt a bit stifled. He remembered the feeling of closeness that he had felt when he met with Bai Meiyue for the first time. Back then, he thought that it was due to the woman being polite yet smart and powerful.
But now he had a feeling—no, a suspicion that there was more to the feeling that he had felt.
He thought of the feelings that he had for Bai Meiyue, and then thought of the feelings that he shared with his supposed biological granddaughter, Bai Yi.
He had watched Bai Yi grow in front of him, and yet he had never felt close to her. He thought that it was because Bai Yi didn’t grow up with him; that he wasn’t as close to her as he was with his other grandchildren. But now—
But now that he was looking at her carefully, he realised that the woman was way too similar to Old Madam Bai, and that wasn’t all; she even shared some similarities with Old Master Bai. It could be said that Yan Wanning was the perfect combination of Old Master Bai and Old Madam Bai.
