"Huh? What do you mean?" Fox asked with a tilt of his head. He genuinely sounded confused as he looked at Bai Meiyue, who rolled her eyes and said to him, "I am asking you if you are trying to stabilise us and only to rush back and tell Yu Miaomiao about our plan. I am afraid that you are planning to seize this opportunity to make Yu Miaomiao trust you even more."
"Oh, how can you think like this? Do you think I am such a person?" Fox asked with an affronted look on his face. But when Bai Meiyue simply stared at him, he sighed. With a resentful look on his face, he said to her, "I truly don’t mean to harm you or your child. Neither am I planning to rush back and tell Yu Miaomiao about you and your family moving. I am a good person and have a bottom line."
When Bai Meiyue was still looking suspicious, he raised his hands in surrender and stated, "Alright, I am doing this because I hope that you will owe me a favour. As long as you owe me a favour, I might be able to make use of it when I need it the most."
However, even if Fox had knelt down and spoken those words, no one would have believed him. In fact, even the soldiers who came with him didn’t believe him. After witnessing what happened today, they would never be able to believe that there were any good people working for Yu Miaomiao.
How could Fox not notice that no one was willing to trust him? With all the gazes looking at him as if he were a monkey in the zoo that was about to perform some tricks, he was filled with a sense of trepidation. It felt really weird that everyone was looking at him with that same suspicion-filled gaze. The entire corridor was filled with silence, which became awkward by the minute.
Lei Qian was about to tell Fox that they didn’t believe a thing that he had spoken to them, and that he should leave before he lost his temper with him. But Bai Meiyue stopped him. She looked at the man who was standing in front of them, looking slightly embarrassed, and said to him, "If you truly mean it, then I believe you are not going to mind it if we take you as hostage?"
Fox snapped his head up and looked at Bai Meiyue with confusion in his eyes. He asked, "What did you say?"
"I asked you to come with us as a hostage," Bai Meiyue understood Fox’s importance in Yu Miaomiao’s dictatorship; the woman would not be willing to lose such an important chess piece. Which meant that if she took Fox with her, Yu Miaomiao was destined to be controlled by her, at least until she reached the mansion.
Fox was speechless. He never thought that Bai Meiyue would come up with such a suggestion.
When Bai Meiyue didn’t hear him agree, she tilted her head to one side and questioned, "What’s the matter? You don’t want to agree. Were you really planning to sell us all to Yu Miaomiao?"
