Given how things were between her and Isabella right now, Natalie knew if she really tried to force her way into Isabella’s company, Isabella wouldn’t just make her pay for the damages—she’d probably call the cops too. The last thing Natalie wanted was to get taken in by the police again.
So she pulled out her phone and called Isabella.
This time, Isabella actually picked up.
“Isabella, where are you?” Natalie snapped.
Isabella’s voice was calm and a little cold. “What do you want? Do I have to give you updates on my whereabouts now?”
“I’m outside your company, and your security won’t let me in. Tell them to open the gate. I need to see you.”
“Natalie, show some respect. They’re my employees, not guard dogs. Honest work is honest work, and you don’t get to insult them or what they do.”
“I told them not to let you in,” Isabella continued. “You’ve got two people in your car I don’t want to deal with. Actually, I don’t want to see you, either. Every time I see you, I feel sick for the rest of the day. I’m about to go to lunch, and I don’t want you ruining my appetite. Let’s not meet.”
Natalie’s face turned green with anger.
“Fine, Isabella. You’re tough, I’ll give you that. You don’t want to see me? You think I’m desperate to see you? My company’s right across the street. Sooner or later, you’ll be the one coming to me for help.”
She hung up, then turned to the two elderly people sitting in the back seat.
“Isabella won’t even see me. I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more I can do to help you.”
Isabella’s grandparents looked embarrassed. Peter finally spoke up. “Sorry, we didn’t mean to drag you into this.”
