Being the boss was exhausting. The whole company depended on her, and she felt that pressure every single day.
There was no room for even a second of relaxation. She was always worried that business would slow down, that profits would drop, that she wouldn't be able to pay all the people who had built this company alongside her.
She poured herself a glass of warm water, took a couple of sips, and walked out of her office with the glass in her hand.
“Isabella.”
Nana looked up and greeted her as she stepped out.
Isabella walked over to Nana’s desk, glanced at the screen, and asked, “Are my grandparents still waiting out front?”
“I’m not sure,” Nana replied. “I’ll check with security. Give me a second, Isabella.”
Nana quickly dialed the security booth. After a few moments, she hung up and turned back to Isabella. “They’re still there. It looks like they’re determined to wait for you, no matter how long it takes.”
“Do you want me to have someone send them away?” Nana asked.
“No, don’t. They’re old. If anyone even touches them, they’ll probably throw themselves on the ground and accuse us of being rough with them. That’s just asking for trouble. If they want to wait, let them wait.”
“It’s so hot out there. I seriously doubt they can sit for the whole day.”
Isabella headed back to her office. She walked straight to the window and looked down at the entrance. Sure enough, two elderly figures were huddled outside the security booth. She didn’t even need to ask. It was her grandparents.
She sipped her water, watching them, feeling nothing at all.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of the company gates. Isabella watched as a woman got out. She couldn’t make out the woman’s face from this distance, but the silhouette was all too familiar. Natalie.
