“Of course. You’re always welcome here.”
Laura Charles didn’t hesitate. Her voice softened, full of concern. “Isabella, what’s going on? Have you been crying?”
She could hear it in Isabella’s voice.
She knew Isabella had been crying.
“I’ll tell you when I get there. I’m calling a cab now.”
“Alright.”
Laura didn’t push for details. She just let it go.
Isabella had come to the beach with Ethan for a holiday, but now she was leaving alone, calling a car to take her back to the city.
She’d barely settled into the back seat when, elsewhere, Jordan and Natalie finally convinced Ethan to take his medicine. They tried for a while to get him to calm down and not take things out on Isabella, but Ethan just sat there, silent, his expression stormy.
After a while, the couple gave up on him. They gave a few instructions to the housekeeper, then left the Adams villa together.
When they stepped outside, Natalie paused, glancing around. “Didn’t Ethan tell the housekeeper to throw Isabella’s suitcase out?”
“Why isn’t it by the door? You don’t think someone took it, do you?”
Jordan shook his head. “I doubt it. This is a gated community, security’s tight. No one just wanders in here.”
“And honestly, who would even want her little suitcase?” he added. “Everyone knows this place belongs to the Adams family. Nobody’s crazy enough to steal something from their doorstep, especially with the cameras watching.”
Natalie frowned, thinking it through. “So, if nobody took it… does that mean Isabella came back for it?”
Jordan thought about it. “How should I know? I’m not inside their heads. Ethan’s already in a bad mood because he’s sick. Then Isabella starts an argument and ditches him to go play at the beach.”
“Ethan’s always been good to her, and she does this? No wonder he’s pissed.”
Earlier, Jordan might have said a few words in Isabella’s defense, but that didn’t mean he’d changed his mind about her. He just didn’t like her. No matter what she did.
“Ethan grew up spoiled, everyone in his family pampers him, he’s used to getting his way. Isabella stands up to him, of course he gets angry,” Jordan said.
“When they were dating, maybe he could let things slide, but now that they’re married, his real temper’s coming out.”
Natalie sighed. “It’s not like they just met. Isabella should know what he’s like by now.”
She had this nagging feeling their fight had something to do with her, but she kept that thought to herself. Jordan always got jealous, ever since they started dating he didn’t like her being too close to Ethan.
