“Isabella? Isabella!” Natalie called out, but all she got in return was the sound of the call ending. Isabella had hung up on her.
Ethan’s face darkened as he listened. He couldn’t believe Isabella had actually hung up on Natalie. That girl was getting bold, acting like Natalie didn’t matter. He made up his mind right then—Isabella needed a wake-up call. If she was going to disrespect Natalie, he’d make sure she paid for it.
Natalie let out a tired sigh. “Ethan, Isabella’s at the beach. She said you should take your medicine by yourself. She’s not coming back to take care of you, she’s worried you two will just end up fighting again. I couldn’t change her mind.”
“Let her do whatever she wants,” Ethan replied, his voice cold and sharp. “If she comes back, fine. If not, I don’t care. I don’t need her fussing over me.” He turned to the butler. “Go upstairs, pack up Isabella Lane’s things, and put them outside by the gate. If she comes back, don’t let her in. Tell her she doesn’t need to bother coming back at all.”
The butler hesitated, clearly uncomfortable.
Jordan frowned, but he didn’t say anything for Isabella.
Natalie, on the other hand, was secretly pleased but kept her face sympathetic. “Ethan, don’t be like this. No wonder Isabella doesn’t want to come back. What are you two even fighting about? Both of you are so angry.”
“Natalie, leave it,” Ethan snapped. “She needs to learn her place. Otherwise, she’ll never know her limits.” If it weren’t for Natalie, he never would have married Isabella. She owed everything to Natalie, and she couldn’t even show her some respect.
Jordan finally spoke up. “Ethan, this is only going to make things worse. Isabella’s just upset right now. Let her cool off. When she’s calmed down, she’ll come back to take care of you. She loves you, you know that. You’re her whole world. Remember how she used to panic whenever you got the slightest bit sick? There’s no way she doesn’t care about you.”
Natalie nodded in agreement. “He’s right, Ethan. Don’t push her like this. You’ll just make her angrier. Couples fight, but you always make up in the end. There’s no need to go this far. And if you throw her out in front of us, it just looks bad for all of us.”
“This isn’t your problem,” Ethan said, his tone flat. “If I don’t put my foot down now, she’ll use running away to threaten me every time. I don’t have time for her tantrums.”
All Isabella wanted was some space, but to Ethan, she was already crossing a line. In his eyes, she was practically walking out on him.
