The last people on earth who wanted to see Isabella happy were probably Jordan and Natalie.
Jordan walked in while Isabella was just settling at her desk. Nana had barely finished telling her he was here when he barged in without waiting for a response.
“Nana, bring Jordan a glass of warm water.”
Isabella didn’t bother to get up. She just gave the order as if she were discussing the weather.
Jordan shot her a glare. “You’re just going to sit there? Aren’t you going to at least pretend to act like a host?”
“If I shouldn’t sit, what am I supposed to do? Parade out to greet you with a marching band? You came uninvited. I didn’t have anyone stop you at the door or kick you out, and I’m still making time to see you. I think that’s generous enough. What more do you expect?”
“Isabella, you ungrateful brat. How long have you even been gone from the Lane family? Now you act like the world owes you something. Let me warn you, people who get too full of themselves always fall hard. Karma’s coming for you.”
Isabella stood up, leaned across the table, and grabbed the glass of warm water Nana had just brought. She poured it into her own cup, tossed the disposable one straight into the trash, and didn’t even look at him.
“Well, since you think I’m such a bad host, you shouldn’t drink my water either. Might as well live up to your expectations.”
Jordan’s face darkened.
“People like you always get what’s coming. Just wait and see who karma takes down next.”
She wasn’t worried. If anything, she felt like the universe was on her side.
If she wasn’t meant to be lucky, would she have gotten a second chance at life? The universe had her back. It wasn’t her fate to be knocked down. Besides, she didn’t think she was the arrogant one here. Jordan was.
“You ungrateful…”
