“Don’t like these flowers? Tell me what you do like, I’ll get them for you next time.”
Ethan just never knew when to quit.
Isabella looked at him, her voice flat. “Ethan, are you even listening? I don’t like any flowers. If they’re from you, I don’t want them.”
Ethan’s smile faded bit by bit.
“So you really dislike me that much?”
“If I told you I did, would you finally keep your distance?”
Ethan didn’t even hesitate. “No. I won’t leave you. Even if you can’t stand me, at least I still get a reaction out of you.”
Isabella brushed past him, heading straight for her office.
“Isabella. Isabella.”
Ethan trailed after her, but she slipped inside and shut the door in his face, the sound echoing down the hallway.
He stood outside, too nervous to force his way in, worried he’d just make things worse.
Harold didn’t bother trying to compete for Isabella’s attention. Once she was in her office, he got up and walked over to Nana’s desk, offering her a polite smile. “I’m Harold from The Carter Group. I’d like to discuss a potential collaboration with Isabella. Could you let her know for me?”
He was calm, respectful, following all the right steps, which was more than Ethan could say.
Ethan just stood there, speechless.
Nana’s whole vibe changed for Harold. She picked up the phone, called Isabella’s extension, and after getting the okay, led Harold inside.
