After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 706

“Laura, stop worrying about why Jesse likes you. Everyone has their own strengths and flaws. What matters is that his feelings for you are real.”

“When you like someone, you just do. You don’t need a reason for it. That’s how love is.”

Laura laughed. “Mom, you’re starting to sound like my personal love expert.”

“I mean it, I’ll really think it over.”

“Okay, Mom, I’m going to eat now. You go get back to your work.”

“Take care of yourself, Laura. Don’t push too hard. As long as you have enough money, that’s enough.”

Evelyn gave her a few more reminders before hanging up.

Laura put her phone down and went back to her food.

By the time she finished eating, Jesse had already finished mopping. He went to rinse the mop in the bathroom, and when he came out, he saw Laura gathering up the dishes. He hurried over and stopped her.

“Your head hurts. Just sit and relax. Let me handle this.”

Laura smiled. “It’s just a little headache. I can still clear the table.”

“Seriously, just sit down. I’ll do it.”

Jesse took the dishes from her hands and carried them into the kitchen.

Laura leaned against the kitchen doorway, watching him wash up.

“Jesse, don’t you think doing chores like this is a waste of your talent? You’re supposed to be in some fancy office, making billion-dollar deals.”

He glanced over, grinning. “I might be a businessman, but I’m still just a regular guy. I have feelings, I get hungry, I clean up after myself. Why would helping out be beneath me?”

Jesse looked at her, his eyes steady. “Honestly, it makes me happy to help you. Laura, I was just lucky to be born where I was. I’ve never thought I was better than anyone else. You shouldn’t put me on some pedestal. We’re equals, you and me.”
