Isabella had just finalized her divorce. Even though she seemed pretty upbeat about it, Laura insisted on drinking with her until neither of them could stand straight.
After Laura threw up, she flopped onto the bed and was out like a light.
Jesse waited until he was sure she wouldn’t get sick again before heading to the bathroom to get cleaned up. This was Laura’s place, and since they weren’t even officially together yet, there was no way he’d have any of his clothes there.
He took a quick shower and had to wrap himself in a big towel as he tiptoed out. Thankfully, Laura was deep asleep and didn’t stir. The apartment felt quiet and safe, just the two of them.
Feeling a bit more relaxed, Jesse slipped into Laura’s walk-in closet. He grabbed a white T-shirt and a pair of black lounge pants and pulled them on.
Laura was tall for a woman, but compared to Jesse, there was still a huge difference. The clothes were tight and awkward, but it was better than nothing.
Dressed—sort of—he felt a little less exposed. He grabbed his phone and called Melissa.
When she picked up, he didn’t waste any time. “Melissa, are you busy? Could you go by my place and grab me a set of clothes? Maybe have someone bring them over? I’m at Laura’s.”
There was a pause. “You two… did something happen?”
“No, nothing happened. Laura hasn’t even agreed to date me yet. How could anything happen?” Jesse let out a sigh. “Isabella and Ethan made it official. Laura drank with Isabella—Ethan’s strongest liquor, no less—and they both got wasted. I brought Laura home and she threw up twice. My clothes are a mess. I showered, but now I’ve got nothing to wear except Laura’s lounge pants, and they barely fit.”
Melissa laughed. “Alright, I’ll go get your clothes and bring them over myself.”
