Natalie sniffled, her voice shaky. “A misunderstanding? I walked in and heard her talking. She was right next to you, so close. If there’s really nothing between you, why did you let her get that close?”
“Who even is she?”
Even after all the drama, Natalie still had no idea who the woman was. She just knew the face looked weirdly familiar.
Jordan reached out and gently wiped away her tears. “She just got here. As soon as she walked in, she came right up to me with a thermos of soup. I was worried if I pushed her away, she’d spill it all over me.”
“I was about to tell her to leave when you came in. You didn’t even give me a second to explain before you started swinging.”
“She’s Deborah’s cousin, Mandy. She’s the one we asked people to find, remember?” Jordan’s voice dropped to almost a whisper, almost like he was afraid someone might be listening.
Natalie stopped crying and just stared at him, stunned. “She’s Mandy? But she looks so much like Deborah.”
“Their dads are brothers. I’ve heard they look almost identical,” Jordan said, trying to explain. “Babe, I swear, nothing’s going on between me and Mandy. She moved into Deborah’s house just like we planned. I had no idea she’d show up here with soup today.”
“I was confused too. I wanted to remind her that her target is my dad, but before I could say anything, you walked in.”
