After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 660

Deborah stopped in her tracks. Jordan stood there, looking like he was ready to bite. “What are you doing here this time?”

She shot him a look. “You don’t run this company yet. I can come and go as I please. Since when do you get to control me?”

Deborah’s tone turned sharp. “Next time you see me, you’d better remember to call me stepmother.”

Jordan’s jaw tightened.

No matter how much he complained, his dad was dead set on marrying Deborah. Jordan had even gone to talk to Kevin Lane, and while the kid was only ten, he acted way too mature. Nothing Jordan said rattled him. Instead, Kevin went straight to Jackson and told him everything Jordan tried to pull at school.

Jackson already favored Kevin. The idea that Jordan would try to hurt the boy made Jackson furious. They ended up in a huge fight, with Jackson warning Jordan that if he so much as touched a hair on Kevin’s head, he wouldn’t see a cent of the Lane family fortune.

Jordan shot back, “Get your marriage license first, then we’ll talk. Until then, you’re nothing to me. For all I know, my stepmother could be someone else entirely.”

He looked at her coldly. “If my dad cheated on Cynthia with you, what makes you think he won’t cheat on you with someone else? You broke up his marriage. Sooner or later, someone else will come between you and my dad. You’re just a washed-up woman in your thirties. Guys like something new and young. No amount of skincare will change the fact that you’re middle-aged.”

Deborah’s face flushed with anger. She hated how much his words stung, mostly because he was hitting on the very thing she feared. For the past ten years, she’d kept Jackson close, never letting another woman near him. But she couldn’t ignore the fact that she was getting older. Jackson might be over sixty, but he took care of himself and looked about her age. There were plenty of women out there willing to do anything to get close to him.

She shifted topics quickly. “Your wife’s sitting in jail, and you’re acting like it’s no big deal.”
