Natalie’s eyes flashed with annoyance, but she kept her voice steady. “I trust Jordan. We’ve known each other since we were kids. He was my first love, and I was his. We’ve been happy ever since we got married. He’d never betray me.”
Sophia let out a dreamy sigh. “You and Jordan are so lucky. Childhood sweethearts. Your relationship is honestly something to envy. My parents and Ethan, they won’t even let me see the person I like. My mom and Ethan are the worst about it.”
Natalie put on an innocent look. “Who is it? Come on, tell me. I’ll ask around about him for you. If he’s a good guy, maybe I can help convince Ethan. Your family is already loaded. You don’t have to marry for money or business. You should be able to follow your heart, marry whoever you want. Your family would still make sure you’re taken care of, no matter what.”
If Sophia got married, the Adams family would definitely send her off with a crazy generous wedding gift. She’d still be living in luxury, no matter whose name was on the mailbox.
They reached Sophia’s car. Sophia hit the unlock button but lingered by the door, not ready to leave.
She confessed, “I like Dylan Main. He’s the head of the Charles family. He’s not from Cabinda, but he does a lot of business here, comes all the time. He even has his own villa here. He’s charming, mature, knows what he’s doing. He’s just as capable as Ethan. And honestly, his family is just as good as mine. The problem is, my mom thinks he’s too old for me, more than ten years older. She totally disapproves. I tried to keep seeing him in secret, but then he brought me home one night and my mom found out. She freaked and packed me off to my aunt’s place to learn manners, just to keep me away from him. Now they watch me like a hawk. I hardly have any freedom anymore. If you hadn’t called, I wouldn’t have been able to get out today.”
Natalie shook her head. “How did you end up falling for him? Yeah, he’s good-looking, and sure, he’s funny and knows how to charm a girl. But he goes through women like most people go through outfits. He’s even said he’ll never get married. Even if you like him, he’s just playing around. He’s not going to actually marry you. Plus, he’s way older than you. Don’t let him fool you with sweet talk. This is something you need to listen to your family about. Marriage lasts a lifetime. Don’t be reckless about it.”
