Harold turned and looked straight at him.

“The truth.”

Harold’s voice was quiet but firm. “Today is Isabella’s big day, her grand opening. I really didn’t want to start anything with you, but since you’re not letting this go, I’ll just say it. Yes, I will. As soon as you and Isabella finalize the divorce and she’s free again, I’m going to tell her how I feel. I’ll pursue her openly. You never knew how to appreciate her, so I will.”

Ethan’s face turned stormy in an instant.

Ethan straightened up, finished his drink in one swallow, and set the glass down with a sharp clink. He stood and said, his voice chilly, “Harold, let’s talk outside.”

Harold didn’t flinch. His cards were on the table now. If this meant things blew up between him and Ethan, so be it. Ethan and Isabella were getting divorced. Once Isabella was single, she deserved another shot at love. His feelings for her were real, and after hiding them for so long, he wasn’t about to keep quiet anymore. He was ready to go after her, openly and without shame.

He’d thought about just quietly supporting her from the sidelines, but Jesse and Barbara had told him to confess, to let Isabella know how he truly felt. They were right. If you love someone, you should let them know.

So he was done hiding. Once Isabella had her divorce papers, he would try. Whether she accepted him or not was a different story. But at least he would have tried. He wouldn’t have to look back and wonder what if.

“Ethan, Harold, come on. Don’t do this. Sit down, eat something, don’t make things harder for Isabella,” Jesse said in a low voice, hoping to calm them down.

Neither of them listened.

There was a private room for Ethan on the hotel’s top floor, one that wasn’t open to other guests. The two men headed straight upstairs and went inside.

Worried a fight might break out, Jesse quickly texted Laura. Laura, after reading the message, leaned over and whispered a few words to Isabella.

Isabella frowned. Ethan and Sophia really seemed determined to ruin her day.
