After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 576

Jennifer was scared.

She was honestly afraid he’d end up alone for the rest of his life. That’s why she’d blurted out those words. He was so much like his mother, finally seeing reality for what it was and letting that fear get the best of him.

“Just let me have that dream again. Let me figure out who really killed Isabella in it,” Ethan mumbled to himself, clasping his hands together like he was making a wish.

Maybe, if he could dream again, he’d find some clue. Maybe then Isabella would be able to forgive him.

The small study didn’t have a bed, just a sofa. The real bedroom was the only place with an actual bed. But Ethan didn’t want to leave the master bedroom. Isabella was asleep in his bed, and it was one of those rare times they were under the same roof, even if she was on the bed and he was on the sofa. At least they were in the same room. Maybe that was enough to pick up where his last dream left off.

Ethan stretched out on the study’s sofa, silently hoping he’d get another chance at that dream.

But the night passed without a single dream. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d slept so deeply.

A sudden crash of thunder pulled Ethan from his sleep.

Rain was pounding outside, lightning flashing across the sky, and the wind howling against the windows. He rushed to shut the window tight.

The sky looked so dark and heavy, he honestly couldn’t tell if it was morning or night. Once the window was closed, he grabbed his phone and checked the time. Seven in the morning. In summer, the sun was usually up by five thirty. Normally, the whole room would be flooded with sunlight by now. Today, the storm made everything feel gray and shadowy, but at least the wind and rain had chased away the heat.

Ethan left the study and walked into the bedroom. Isabella was still sound asleep, thunder and all. She must have really tied one on last night to sleep that hard.

He walked over to the bed and sat down at the edge, just watching her. She looked beautiful, peaceful in sleep, so calm he couldn’t look away.

Maybe it was the way he was staring, or maybe it was just the endless thunder outside, but Isabella finally started to wake up.

She blinked her eyes open, still half-asleep and unfocused. For a second, she saw Ethan and thought she was imagining things, or maybe still dreaming. She shut her eyes again, hoping to clear her head.
