Ethan was just as stressed out as he was.
Thinking about his rival struggling too made Douglas feel a little better. At least he wasn’t the only one having a tough time.
“I know things haven’t been easy for you, so I want you to relax a bit. Can you reschedule your dinner meeting tonight? Let me take you out for a couple drinks. You need to unwind.”
Douglas grinned. “Is there something to celebrate? Why are you suddenly inviting me out for drinks?”
“Is it just us? Did you invite the others too?”
Linda shook her head. “Nope, just you. I’m starting with you first.”
That set off Douglas’s internal alarm. “What are you up to? Are you trying to set me up with someone?”
Linda laughed. “No, I barely have any good friends to introduce to you. The only new people I’ve met lately are Laura and Isabella. Laura’s already caught Jesse’s eye, so I’m not about to step in there.”
“Isabella and Ethan just went to file their divorce papers today, but they haven’t gotten the official certificate yet. There’s this whole waiting period. Honestly, why bother with it? Wouldn’t it be easier to just let them move on?”
“We’re having drinks later at one of our hotels to celebrate Isabella being single again. Come with us. It’ll be fun, and you’ll get a chance to make a good impression on her.”
Douglas sighed. “Can you stop playing matchmaker? I’m not interested in Isabella or Laura. They’re both great, but they’re just not for me. You don’t have to worry about my love life. I’ll get married when the right person comes along.”
He could tell Linda wasn’t going to let this go so easily.
“No matter how great Isabella is, she used to be Ethan’s wife. It’s not like I can’t find a woman to marry. Why would I go after someone Ethan didn’t want anymore? Am I really that pathetic? Picking up someone else’s leftovers?”
