After Sophia finished venting, Natalie spoke in a gentle tone. “Ethan doesn’t actually want the divorce, you know. He said even if it goes through, he’ll just start chasing after Isabella all over again.”
“He told me that the moment he starts pursuing her again, that’s when he’ll know he’s really fallen for her.”
Sophia stared at her, eyes wide. “Seriously? Ethan wants Isabella back?”
“What does she have that’s so special? Did she put a spell on him or something? I mean, Ethan’s always loved you. He even said the only reason he married Isabella was so he could see you more easily at the Lane house. Isabella was just part of his plan.”
“Sure, he defended her after they got married, but that was just because she was his wife. If he didn’t stand up for her, it would make him look bad. It wasn’t about feelings. From the way he treated her, he clearly wasn’t in love. So why is he suddenly acting like he’s head over heels right after the divorce?”
Natalie’s voice was soft. “Maybe Isabella insisting on the divorce made Ethan want to win her over. Honestly, I think she’s playing hard to get.”
“Think about it. She was so obsessed with Ethan before. There’s no way she just got over him in a few months. She must’ve changed her game. Now she’s catching his attention and making him fall for her, so she can become Mrs. Adams for real.”
Throughout their short marriage, Ethan and Isabella had slept in separate rooms. They were married in name, but that was about it.
