Sophia had never liked her, not in this life or the last. But soon, Isabella wouldn’t have to call Sophia or Jennifer family anymore.
In the Adams family, Stephanie was the only one who treated her halfway decently, and even that felt lukewarm. Stephanie always favored Ethan. She was his grandmother after all.
“Ethan said he’s really tied up today and can’t come pick you up, so he called me. Isabella, come home with me.” Stephanie’s voice was gentle, but Isabella could hear the effort behind it.
Stephanie knew Ethan was avoiding this moment. He was scared to see Isabella leave the hospital, probably because he’d already promised her they’d get the divorce papers signed as soon as she was discharged.
Stephanie didn’t really feel bad for Ethan. Sure, she’d scolded him plenty, but he was still her grandson. So here she was, showing up to take Isabella home, hoping maybe she could help Ethan keep her around a little longer.
Isabella shook her head. “Grandma, I think I’ll stay at my mom’s for a while, just so she doesn’t worry.” She’d go back to Ethan’s villa eventually to pack up her things and move out. They were getting divorced. There was no reason to stay. She’d waited so long for this day.
Stephanie let out a silent sigh, but she didn’t try to convince Isabella otherwise. Her smile was gentle as she said, “Alright. With your mom and uncle taking care of you, we can feel at ease.”
“Stephanie.” Cynthia and the others greeted the Adams family, then gathered around Isabella and started leading her out.
They hadn’t even reached the elevator when Harold, Barbara, Linda, and Jesse showed up. Jesse was chasing after Laura, so he was always extra nice to Isabella, hoping for a good word on his behalf.
