Isabella handed Laura her phone and sighed. “Let’s promise each other right now, we are never going over to the White family’s house. It’s not just Linda and her warm welcome waiting for us. It’s her fifteen brothers too.”
Laura cracked up. “Come on, with brothers like that, Linda shouldn’t worry. Every single one of them could get married in a heartbeat if they wanted. She’s just stressing herself out.”
“Douglas even says he already likes someone.”
Isabella shook her head. “Honestly, I think they just use Linda as an excuse. It gets their parents off their backs about settling down. Linda actually believes them, so she’s always freaking out about her brothers’ relationships.”
“I wonder who Douglas likes. I’ve never heard any rumors about him and anyone. The only gossip is how he and Ethan can’t stand each other.”
In her last life, Isabella had never even heard about Douglas getting married. She had no clue who he ended up with.
Laura leaned in and lowered her voice. “Isabella, what if Douglas actually likes guys? Like, what if he has a thing for Ethan? Maybe he loves him but can’t have him, so he just wants to ruin him?”
Isabella stared at her. Where did Laura even get these wild ideas?
“No way,” Isabella said, laughing. “Those two are just enemies in business. There’s nothing romantic there. Douglas is just a regular guy as far as anyone knows. I’ve never heard about him liking any man or woman. And Ethan is even more obvious. He only has eyes for Natalie. There’s no way there’s some secret love triangle.”
Laura realized how crazy her theory sounded and let out a sheepish laugh. “Yeah, you’re right. I’m way overthinking it. The world of rich people is just too weird for us.”
“I wonder what Deborah and my mom are talking about,” Isabella said, suddenly distracted. She really wanted to sneak out and listen, but that felt a little too rude. Still, the curiosity was intense.
