After shutting the office door, Jordan made his way back to the sofa and glared at the bag of ribs Ethan had dropped off. His face was so dark it could scare anyone who walked in.
Isabella had no idea any of this was happening.
She’d just finished a long chat with Barbara about the script. Barbara’s secretary called to remind her about a meeting with a client, so once Barbara left, Isabella finally let herself relax. Barbara really lived up to her reputation. She had sharp instincts and always knew exactly what the story needed.
With Barbara’s advice and a few more changes from the team, the new script was done. It finally had the vibe Isabella was looking for.
Feeling good, Isabella thought of Cynthia and dialed her number.
“Mom, are you free tonight?” she asked as soon as Cynthia picked up.
“I am. Jackson has a dinner thing, so he won’t be home,” Cynthia replied. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing special. I just realized it’s been a while since I saw you, and I really miss you. I thought maybe I could take you out for dinner, and then we could go shopping for a bit.”
It was true. She hadn’t spent much time with Cynthia lately.
“Are you done with work?” Cynthia sounded worried, not wanting to interrupt her daughter’s schedule.
“Yeah, I’m free for now. I gave everyone two days off so they can rest before we start filming the next project.”
“You should rest too,” Cynthia said gently. “Your health matters most. Don’t stay up all night working. What’s the point of making money if you wear yourself out?”
“When will your show be online? Let me know when it’s out. I’ll definitely watch, and I’ll tell all my friends about it.”
Her mom’s support made Isabella laugh. “You’re right. I won’t be nervous anymore. We’ve finished filming, so now it’s up to the market.”
“Should I come pick you up, or will you drive over?” she asked.
“I’ll drive myself. That way you don’t have to worry about taking me home later.” Cynthia had gotten her license after marrying into the Lane family, and Jackson bought her a nice car. Usually, she drove herself unless she and Jackson were going to an event together.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you downstairs at my studio. It’s only a few blocks away, so you’ll be here in no time.”
Everything was pretty close in the city, unless you got stuck in traffic.
Cynthia agreed without hesitation. After they hung up, Isabella figured her mom wouldn’t arrive right away, so she stayed in the studio to chat with the writers for a while.
