After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 165

“If this Isabella is a fake, then she can’t be Cynthia’s daughter.”

“If the test shows they’re mother and daughter, then she’s real.”

Jordan nodded. “That’s even better. I’ll have Natalie get some of Cynthia’s hair, and then we’ll use Isabella’s too for a DNA test.”

“Alright, just give both samples to me when you have them. I’ll handle the test.”

Jordan was more than happy to let Ethan take over. If the results came back odd, Ethan would have no reason to doubt them—he would just believe Isabella was an imposter. For the DNA test, Jordan would have Natalie swap out Cynthia’s hair for someone else’s. That way, the result would definitely show no maternal link.

“I’ll also have someone look into her background,” Ethan said. He figured it was safer to do both—run the DNA test and investigate.

“Good idea. You should check it out. She’s your wife now, after all. If she’s up to something, you’re the one she’s targeting. We just don’t want to see you get played. That’s why we’re warning you.”

“Thanks,” Ethan replied quietly.

He’d noticed Isabella changing, but he’d thought it was because she’d finally learned the real reason he married her. He figured she was just heartbroken. At first, he even wondered if she was trying a new way to get his attention. Now, he realized that wasn’t it. Isabella didn’t seem interested in him at all. That truth left him feeling strangely empty inside.

“Get some rest.”

“You too.”

“Ethan, what’s going on? The phone rang for like two seconds, and then you hung up. Are you okay?” Jesse sounded concerned. Ethan never hung up before his friends picked up.

“It’s nothing. I’m just in a crappy mood. It’s fine. I’ll just drink a little by myself.”

“You already had a few at the party. Don’t drink any more or you’ll be out of it again. Hangovers suck. Did you and Isabella have a fight?” Jesse had heard about the drama with Natalie later. He’d arrived late, just as Ethan was leaving with Isabella, and Harold had filled him in.

“Ethan, I don’t want to interfere,” Jesse said, “but you should check the security cameras from tonight. Don’t just blame Isabella without proof.” Watching the footage would also show who was really being fake.

Ethan stayed quiet.
