After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 106

Natalie was never going to choose Ethan. Anyone who had spent enough time around them could see it. She liked the way Ethan doted on her, sure, but her heart was always with Jordan. The three of them had grown up together. If Natalie was ever going to fall for Ethan, it would have happened ages ago.

“Ethan’s still sick. If Isabella comes over, she can look after him,” the driver suggested.

Ethan rolled his eyes. “She already told me she’s not going to take care of me.” His voice was sharp, almost sulky. “Honestly, just seeing her puts me in a worse mood. Tell her to come home tonight if she wants, but don’t bother picking her up, and definitely don’t bring her here. The Adams Group isn’t a place for her right now.”

The driver held back a sigh. He couldn’t help thinking that one day, Ethan would be desperate for Isabella to pick him up after work, and she wouldn’t even bother showing up. Of course, there was no way he’d say that out loud. Still, he had a feeling that Ethan’s pride was going to get him in trouble one day, and it would be a sight to see.

“Yes, sir,” the driver replied quietly.

After giving his instructions, Ethan strode into the office building.

“Mr. Adams.”

“Good morning, Mr. Adams.”

Everyone he passed greeted him respectfully. Ethan just gave a small nod and kept moving, his face serious and unreadable. In public, he was always the picture of professionalism, quiet and distant. Isabella used to say his gentle side was something he saved for Natalie only. Even though she had been his wife in two lifetimes, she had never really seen that gentle side of him.

Back at his desk, Ethan remembered leaving a comment on Isabella’s post. He opened Twitter to check if she’d replied, but there was nothing. He couldn’t tell if she hadn’t seen it or if she was just ignoring him.

Isabella frowned. “I already talked to Frank about borrowing them for a while. Why would he turn around and give them new assignments?” It really felt like someone was messing with her on purpose.

Thinking about her recent argument with Ethan, she didn’t even need to ask to know he was behind this. Still, she picked up her phone and called Frank.

He answered right away.

“Frank, what’s going on with the director and actors I borrowed? Why did you call them back? My production is about to start filming. How am I supposed to find new people at the last minute?” Her tone was tight. “They work for your company, so of course you can take them back if you want, but you should have given me some warning. That way I could have found someone else.”

If she wasn’t worried that this whole short drama trend would only last for another couple of years, she would have signed a dozen actors herself by now. Then she wouldn’t have to rely on Frank and let him have this much power over her.
